Late last month, an American born woman affirmed her oath of citizenship in Canada while placing her hand on texts containing the wisdom of Hesiod and Homer.

Melissa Gold, a member of Hellenion, a Hellenic Polytheistic Reconstructionist movement, says Canada’s unique approach to religious diversity and freedom made the ceremony more memorable for her.

In an interview with the Pagan Newswire Collective’s Cara Schulz, Melissa said of the ceremony;

“I am fortunate that I didn’t have to act defiantly in order to honor my spiritual practice, although I was prepared to do so.  That I didn’t have to is typical of Canada and is yet another reason why I choose to live here.”
